Acupuncture
In physiotherapy we apply acupuncture in a modern approach called ‘anatomical acupuncture’. Anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pain science is used to reason how acupuncture is applied in treatment pathways. Acupuncture can be used to control pain, resolve inflammation, provide regeneration, restore physical function and normalize nervous system function.
Dry Needling
Trigger point dry needling uses an acupuncture needle, inserted into the skin and muscle aimed at myofascial trigger points. This can be carried out in a superficial or deep manner. Often a localized twitch response is elicited by the needle. Dry needling can have positive effects on the body such as neurophysiological, effects on blood flow and also remote effects.
IMS
Often called IMS or GUNN IMS, the technique originally developed to address chronic pain and muscle tension impacting nerves. Dr Gunn developed IMS a few years ago with his knowledge of western and eastern medicine and acupuncture. An acupuncture needle is used, inserted into the muscle/area to impact musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain.
